Coolidge Piano Service

Welcome

For many people their piano is their most cherished possession.  Often the piano is a family heirloom.

My approach is to treat your piano as if it were my own instrument.  If there is an aspect of the piano’s condition that requires attention I discuss it with you in a forthright manner, recommending the appropriate service.  When contracted to perform that service, I will do so for a fair price.

To be invited into people’s homes to work on their piano is an honor, a joy and a privilege.  I look forward to the opportunity to service your piano.

Good to Know

An Overview of Piano Care

The piano is a beautiful piece of furniture. Its massiveness and solidity make it easy to forget that it is also a delicate machine with literally thousands of component parts. These parts must be adjusted to close tolerances in order to work together and function properly. In a proper state of tune and regulation, the piano will be a responsive and enjoyable musical instrument. Allowing it to lapse into a state of disrepair can shorten the piano’s lifespan. In most circumstances my goal is to get the piano working properly and keep it that way. Optimally, I will get the piano stabilized in pitch in a proper state of adjustment. Once the piano is in this condition, and in a stable climatic environment, I can keep it that way, with routine maintenance, for years or even decades. Many of my customers enjoy getting the most out of their pianos in this way.

What to expect on your first appointment

When we set up an appointment for me to service your piano, I am setting aside that time in my schedule for you.  If for some reason you need to change our appointment please do so as soon as possible.  There is no set fee for cancellation within 24 hours or for missed appointments, but in such ases I appreciate a $60 remittance for my time.  Having a high percentage of appointments where we successfully hook up helps keep my prices down. When I arrive at your house (or wherever the location of the piano) it will be helpful if all the things are removed from the top of the piano.  I need some room to work in front of the piano, and it’s nice but not always necessary to have some room around the right side of the piano.  We don’t usually need to pull the piano away from the wall.  Having good lighting is very helpful, even though I carry a spotlight and flashlight with me. A reasonable degree of temperature stability is needed.  If your piano is placed in direct sunlight or in the path of the heat or air-conditioning vent during tuning, these conditions will interfere with my professional services. I especially appreciate having a quiet environment in which to tune the piano.  Sometimes there is no way around having noise where I work.  When it is quiet I can do my work faster and have more time to do the little extra things for the piano that I tend to do for my tuning fee.
